Toe Clips
Would it make sense to put toe clips on a mountain bike?
I got a new mountain bike and i decided to spiff it up, seeing that i dont want to drive yet, so i am going to be using it more. Would it make sense to put toe clips on it? Not the ones where you have to have special shoes, just the ones that you slide your foot into. They are usually plastic. Would that make sense?
Here are some stats as pertaining to efficiency of the effects of three types of pedals and how they affect your ride. The first is a flat pedal and it has about 45% efficiency as compared to a flat pedal with toe cages at about 55% and clip in pedals at about 95% efficiency so the better way to go obviously is to use the clipless pedal. It would make sense to use a pedal that works best for you but you can see the difference these all make. Toe clips are or can be harder to get in and out of though and this is one drawback to them but fit them correctly and they will work. I will only use a Crank Brothers pedal with a clip in shoe...nothing else will do for me and you would be wise to look into this further as it is safer and more efficient in the long run! What happens if your front tire hits a rut deep enough to toss you over the handlebar...will your feet come out that way, Not very likely especially on the trail....Straps are dangerous (typically ) off road!
