Hub Sealed
How do you remove the axle from a hub with sealed cartridge bearings?
It's a rear Velocity hub, if that makes a difference. After removing the lock ring, I see a nut on each end of the axle. Do I just put 15 mm cone wrenches on both nuts and turn them in opposite directions? (My ultimate goal is to remove the freehub body.)
I can't tell you exactly, but generally you should remove the left side nuts only....the axle should slide out the right side. I think the Velocity hubs are a pretty simple design, so you shouldn't run into any trouble. If you remove the nuts from both sides, be sure that you have the axle centered when you put it back together...even amounts protruding from each side when it's all snugged up.
I'll bet if you send an email to Velocity (www.velocityusa.com) they can provide a parts diagram to help you out. If they're using any sort of odd cassette body, this would be a good idea before you try to tear it down. Sorry I can't help better, but there are so many hub/cassette designs out there and I haven't been in a Velocity.
When you get the axle out, you'll most likely need a 10mm, 11mm, or 12mm allen wrench to remove the hub body. You'll have to access it through the shell from the left side. Sometimes it's easier to chuck the wrench in a vise and then turn the whole wheel by hand at the rim...they can really get stuck in there and be a bear to remove.
