What's the difference from a cross lever and a regular brake lever?

As Oddball explained, a "cross" lever is entirely different from a regular road lever. In fact, you must have standard brake levers installed in order to be able to use "cross" levers.

"Cross" levers, also known as "bar top" and "interceptor" levers fit on the top or flat part of your handlebars and allow you to brake from the top of the handlebar rather than moving your hands to the brake hoods. They make an in-line connection to the brake cable between your regular levers and the brakes. Unlike old school extension levers, that were installed on many bikes back in the 70s and 80s, cross levers work like a champ.

Many companies make cross levers including Cane Creek, Salsa, Tektro, etc.

Hope this helps.
