Shimano Rsx
Shimano RSX STI not latching.?
Only recently whenever i change up my gears (i have 2 large cogs at the front, 6 at the back) from the small cog to the large cog at the front, whenever i release the lever it drops back down straight away, and i was wanting to know how i could fix this.
Cheers
In response to bikeworks' answer:
It isn't a new bike by any stretch of the imagination, but i have a feeling that it is an adjustment issue, purely because my father and I tried to adjust it this morning, and we got it to a point where the shifter would 'latch' onto the top cog, but the chain was bumping against the mechanism that changes it up and down so we had to drop it back. However, all of the changes that we made were to the cog end of the line, nothing at the shifter end.
First thing would be to try your best to adjust the derailleurs. For advice on that, the best place to start is always the Sheldon Brown web pages (RIP, Sheldon). Check out http://sheldonbrown.com/derailer-adjustment.html The Park Tools web site is also good: http://www.parktool.com/repair/byregion.asp?catid=53
I have a mid-90s bike with RSX STI shifters. I crashed one time and the shifter got stuck into sand on the side of the road. I had to replace the shifter because they can't be opened up, dissembled, and reassembled. I was able to replace the shifter back then. You can't now. Replacing your shifters and derailleurs with a current system, like Shimano's Sora, will probably cost more than the bike is worth these days, especially if you add the labor cost.
