how do grips that aren't lockons stay on? and how are they installed and removed?
im wondering because the non-lock ons have way better colours and designs, also, do bmx grips work on mtb?
Held on by friction, tight rubber around bar. Putting them on and taking them off is a pain. To help take them off with-out cutting them off, you can use an air hose with a small nozzle, place the nozzle under the lip of the grip, it will kind of blow the grip up and you can pull it off. Or sometimes you can roll the grip off. Start by rolling the grip down your bars until you can pull the grip off. For the little extra cost, lock on grips are the best investment for your bike. Many styles, patterns, colors and the price is coming down. One trick with the lock on's, put the collar on the end of the grip first, line up the small knotches on the grip with the one's on the locking collar, press the collars on, then put the clamping screws in. Bmx grips will fit on the mtb bars, but will not work very well, the bmx grips will get in the way of your shifters, the shifters hit the grip. ODI does make grips for dh bikes that have a cut-out so that your shifters will work. Also lock-ons work when wet, most non lock-ons will slip when wet and will twist. Go to a local shop and have a look. Good luck and ride safe.
