What are pros and cons for linear and dual pivot brakes?
Reliability? Low maintenance? Best control in a fast emergency stop? Comfort bike.
The only significant differences are the amount of leverage applied to the rim and the tire clearance.
It is perceived that linear pull brakes provide a lot more stopping power than dual pivots, but the fact is that either type, when compared using the same wheel and the same pad compound can exceed the force necessary to deform the rim. When the rim deforms braking effectiveness is reduced. This is a common occurance on cheap bikes with linear pulls and steel rims where the rims actually dictate the effectiveness, not the brakes.
If you are using the bike for loaded touring then the greater force of linear pulls when using heavier rims may very well be beneficial, but for casual riding- which is what I suspect you'll be doing if comparing comfort bikes- the difference is near zero.
